The Canadian Destroyer!

Posted: July 25, 2011 in Video of the Week

This weeks “Video of the Week” is from an indiepromotion were a wrestler makes a picture perfect Canadian Destroyer, my favorite finisher of all. It’s insane!

July 10th 2011 was the date when TNA showcased their X Division and they brought back what TNA is known for: Their six-sided  wrestling ring. In a PPV with a good card on paper I expected much, with one of my favorite matches in the wrestling world included; Ultimate X. This could really be a blast, but did it really deliver? Keep reading to find out!

The Matchcard

  1. Kazarian vs. Samoa Joe
  2. Douglas Williams vs. Mark Haskins
  3. Generation Me vs. Eric Young & Shark Boy
  4. Shannon Moore vs. Robbie E. vs Amazing Red vs. Alex Shelley
  5. Rob van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn
  6. Austin Aries vs. Zema Ion vs. Low-Ki vs. Jack Evans
  7. Brian Kendrick vs. Abyss
  8. Christopher Daniels vs. AJ Styles

1. Kazarian vs. Samoa Joe

Destination X started off with Kazarian vs. Samoa Joe, every match with Samoa Joe have always entertained me so I was looking forward to see this match and in what I think;
a perfect starter match.

I had never seen Kazarian before (as I said in an earlier post, I have not seen so many ppv’s from TNA before) so it was interesting to see what he was about. The match started with good action and I’m always amazed of Samoa Joe’s agility for his size. It’s really incredible and it amazed me today as well, with high jumps and great speed, you can’t really believe  your eyes when Samoa Joe shows his arsenal. At first I was not that impressed by Kazarian but he shined sometimes in his spots and gave us a well executed slingshot DDT that I gladly watched again in the replay. The match was pretty fast paced and I thought the match would end when Samoa Joe hit the STF on Kazarian but Kazarian broke out of it and won by a simple roll up against Joe. It was a fine starter match of the PPV and perfect to get the wrestling fans in to the mood of watching more matches for this PPV.

2. Douglas Williams vs. Mark Haskins

The second match of this PPV was not a good match and a lot more worst than the rest of the matches. First of all, I didn’t like Douglas Williams, his micwork before the match was mediocre and his look was so unpersonal that you did not even want to know what he was doing there. The other combatant was a litte bit better, but remember too much about WWE’s John Morrison in the looks (long hair, sunglasses and a coat made by fur). He tried to fire the crowd up in the beginning of the match but with no luck. However, the match begun very fast(like a X-Division match should be) with both combatants trying to earn the win with different kind of counter-pins against eachother. But as a longer the match went by, the speed disappeared and it went over to Douglas Williams, trying out different submission holds on Mark Haskins. Mark Haskins impressed me a little bit in my mind and I see that he can grow strong in the X-Division but Douglas Williams was absolutely not my cup of tea and I rather not see him in a PPV anymore. Bad character and not so good wrestling skills to make up for his character and look. Douglas Williams went out of the match as the winner.

3. Tag Team Match
Generation Me vs. Eric Young & Shark Boy

This match stood for the comedy skit for the night as TV-Champion Eric Young & Shark Boy made fools out of themselves during the match and it was actually pretty funny as well. Before the match, Eric Young didn’t have a partner and was looking backstage for one, and it was Shark Boy who came and volonteered to be Young’s tag-team partner against the tag team Generation Me. As the match started Young and Shark Boy could not decide who would begin the match and Young tagging himself in and out at least 3 times, but the match finally started and Shark Boy begun against Jeremy in Generation Me. It was a good match that I didn’t expect much so much from but Generation Me showed som great high flying move and the ending was very well executed whe Shark Boy nailed a stunner that went into a nice neckbreaker from Eric Young who picked up the win. It was nice with some comedy in between when the rest of the PPV had a more serious tone.

4. Ultimate X match for the Number 1 Contenders spot for the X-Division Championship
Shannon Moore vs. Robbie E. vs. Amazing Red vs. Alex Shelley

This was one of the matches I was looking forward to the most. I really like the Ultimate X matches, they are always exiting and you will always see some incredible stunts from the performers. Not only that, two of my favorite X-Division performers was included in the match: Amazing Red and Alex Shelley from what I think is the best tag team in the wrestlingbusiness right now “Motor City Machine Guns”.
The match started intense with Shannon Moore taking control, but this would soon change and Alex Shelley could show off his moves, he really is a fantastic wrestler and the audience thought so as well, becasue you could hear a lot of “Alex Shelley” chants throughout the match. One thing I got surprised off was that the bookers booked the wrestler Roobie E. pretty strong, with his goofy Jersey Shore-gimmick I automatically asumed he was a jobber who would get his ass kicked. But so was not the case, and he once was near to grab the X hanging up high above the ring but it didn’t went well as Amazing Red draged him down to a dangerous fall to the m

at and he was practically out for the rest of the match. The match was pretty exciting by the end with Shannon Moore climbing even higher up than the rope was hanging on to the steel structure to grab the X, at the same time Amazing Red and Alex Shelley climbed the rope. Shannon Moore got rid of Amazing Red by stomping on his hands and Red fell down to the mat, when Shannon was about to grab the X, Alex Shelley came and kicked him down the rope and Alex grabbed the X and went home with the victory to be the new number 1 contender for the X-Division Championship.

The match was good but I became a little bit dissappointed, because my expectations are always high when it is an Ultimate X match, and with wrestlers like Alex Shelley and Amazing Red, I expect a hell of a match. But so was not the case to night, it did not steal the show but it was not a bad match by any means. I certainly enjoyed it!

5. Rob van Dam vs. Jerry Lynn

The next match involved one of my favorite wrestlers of all time;  Rob van Dam, so of course I was looking forward to this match but I was not expecting to much from him because the years are taking their course and I didn’t expect him to be in the shape I’m used to see him in. A devided audience fired up for this match with one side chanting for RVD and the other one chanting for Jerry Lynn. I thought this match would be a face vs face match, and the theme of the match would be “respect”. That was not the case, Jerry Lynn soon took on the role of a heel when he was throwed outside of the ring by RVD, RVD then let him comeback to the ring without beat him up just to make it a fair fight. Jerry Flynn didn’t answer in the same way, he threw RVD out of the ring and when RVD was on his way back to the ring, Jerry gave him a nice baseball slide! They worked very well together but because of their age they could not have a really fast paced match as we are used to when we are watching the X-Division. RVD later on got busted open but then gave Lynn “the Van Daminator” and his 5-star
frog splash to pick up the win in a match that was really entertaining and for me, it was very funny to watch my old hero again!

6. Match for TNA-contract
Austin Aries vs. Zema Ion vs. Low- Ki vs. Jack Evans

This match was the best match of the night, the showstealer and I got a new favorite X-Division wrestler in Jack Evans.
I was looking forward to see this much because I wanted to see Low-Ki again(formerly known as Kaval in WWE) who had a too short career in the WWE and I was pissed off when he was released from WWE because he never got a chance to really show his abilities, and the crowd liked him as well so I didn’t quite understand why he was let go by WWE. But now I would see him again and I was really excited! When he first entered the ring I thought the building would explode with cheers, because Low-Ki is a really famous independent wrestler and you can compare his status among independent wrestlingfans to Bryan Danielson(now Daniel Bryan in WWE). However, he got a pretty good pop but I was expecting more from the TNA-crowd. Nobody of the wrestlers in this match have a TNA-contract(kayfabe) but the winner of the match would get one and before the PPV there had been qualifiers to get into the match.
The match started off and what a match it was! They all worked together very well, no botching from any of them and what moves they put on, it was insane! Especially Jack Evans who was one of the most promising and best high-flyers I have ever seen, if you don’t know who the guy is, you better check him out! He made one of the most wicked combo moves I’ve seen, by first drop kick Low-Ki and then turn the drop kick into a splash on Zema Ion! It was very well executed and I just want to see more of him. If you have not seen the match, you better search it up right now because throughout the whole match all the combatants put out their best, Jack Evans made me begin to questioning gravity with his high flying moves, Low-Ki and Zema Ion also showed off some wicked moves and Austin made a very good performance as well. The crowd was chanting “Sign them all” and “This is wrestling” and all of them showed us how a wrestling match really should be like. Winner was Austin Aries and now has a contract with TNA. But I must see more from Jack Evans and Low-Ki, or else I riot!

7. Match for the X-Division Championship
Brian Kendrick vs. Abyss(C)

The story about this match begun in May when Eric Bischoff descided to destroy the X-Division(where only the lightweights of the company are competing) and to do that he took the rules in his own hands and told Abyss to win the championship and never let a rea X-Division wrestler win it again. Abyss weight is 160 kg so the plan was that a lightweight never could stand a chance against a so much bigger opponent like Abyss, but as they say; the bigger they are, the harder they fall. Before the match started I was really rooting for Brian Kendrick because, for the first, I really don’t like Abyss, I don’t think he is such a good wrestler and his gimmick is totally stolen from Mick Foley(but he is not hiding it either) and for the second, the PPV is for the lightweights and the X-Division, if Brian Kendrick would lose, I think that the PPV would get a big anti-climax by the end of it. But how did the result end up?
It seemed like a impossible mission for Brian Kendrick to make, as Abyss didn’t feel any blows that Brian Kendrick gave him. And Abyss was pretty much dominating the match in the beginnning, but after a while Brian Kendrick managed to bust Abyss wide open, and now the match was more interesting as Abyss started to be more like a human than a monster and the match got more intense and Abyss managed to beat down the ref by accident and after that Kendrick hit his finsiher. But since the ref was out, he couldn’t get the win and instead Eric Bischoff came out to the ring and started screaming against Kendrick who hit him in the face. After that Hulk Hogan & CO came out to secure that Kendrick did not win over Abyss, but they where followed by the whole X-Division who outnumbered Hogan& co and that left Kendrick and Abyss alone in the ring. Abyss tried to hit a chokeslam on Kendrick who reversed it and got Abyss in to a pin, the ref woke up and Kendrick became the new X-Division Champion!
I don’t think that the match was any good until the end of it when it really got exciting, but it’s nice to see Kendrick as a new champion and I’m looking forward to his match against Alex Shelley.

8. Aj Styles vs. Christopher Daniels

For the main event it was two future TNA-Legends squaring of against eachother. Aj Styles vs. Christopher Daniels, and they was about to settle who the best X-Division wrestler really was.
The match started with really good matbased wrestling with a lot of armdrags, leapfrogs and back and forth wrestling between the two, it reminded of a really good old-school wrestling match and the two wrestlers really showed their matbased wrestling skills. The newcomer to wrestling would maybe not enjoy but me and many other fans was just sitting back in the couched and really satisfied to see these two good performers give it all to eachother, you really felt the mindgame that AJ and Daniels wanted to show us and they succeeded with that. It was amazing to see! After 10 minutes or so, the match begun to take another turn as AJ started to do hurricaneranas and both AJ and Daniels started to make risktaking high flying moves. You saw throughout the match that AJ and Daniels have worked many times together as you could barely see any mistake and the teamwork they had was absolutely fantastic. This was pure wrestling at it’s best. The match ended with Daniels trying to make his Angel Wings on the top rope but it got countered by Aj who hit his Spinal Tap and got the win. The match was great but I think something was missing, I don’t know if it was the audience who didn’t make much sound which you expect them to do in the mainevent of a Division X PPV, the division that TNA fans hold so close to their heart or if the lack of excitement in the ending made this match a little less good than everyone expected. It’s really hard to say, but you could really see in the match that this was some of TNA’s finest wrestlers.

Summary

That was the end of Destination X who I really looked forward to to see, I love the cruiserweights and almost every match looked good on the card. With the exception of Douglas Williams vs. Mark Haskins I think that every match delivered. The match of the evening was of course the 4-man match for the TNA-contract and I will see it again and again after this because that is how every match should be. In the end I was really satisfied with the PPV and didn’t feel that I wasted 3 hours of my life on nothing. So you will very well see both WWE and TNA reviews from me again!

The rating I give for this PPV is:

8/10

I just wonder what is really going on WWE right now, it’s seems like they starting all over again, with CM Punk stealing the title and Triple H taking over WWE from McMahon(kayfabe) and now I just saw the commercial for next weeks Raw(I’m going to post it as well) I am really psyched!! Will we see a new belt? What will Triple H do? What will happen in what they call “The post McMahon Era” Something big MUST happen within these weeks leading up their second biggest PPV; Summerslam. WWE now have it all in their hands to change their downward spiral and I really hope they will take the chance! I will tonight watch Smackdown for starters to see what happens there, maybe they are beginning the changes already on Smackdown? But I don’t think so, I think they will wait until Monday and Raw. I hope and think that it will be a big blast!

Here is the commercial for Monday Night Raw:

Since I started this blog I’ve been wondering if I should review TNA’s ppv as well, or just go with WWE. But from now I’m gonna try to review their ppv’s as well, I don’t think it’s gonna be quite as good as my WWE reviews because it takes a lot of my spear time to watch all the shows following up to the ppv’s and keep track on the wrestlers from both WWE and TNA. But I will give it a try and the review of TNA’s latest PPV Destination X will come up tomorrow Saturday or on Sunday! So keep track if you want to know what I thought about it. Because me myself are extremely enthuasiastic about it, the X-Division is always fun to watch!

Aj Styles, TNA Wrestler

As you all know CM Punk won the WWE Championship last sunday and quitted the day after, which means in a way that he stole the championship. Now he is going around and mocking the WWE with their championship and the last mocking that occured was yesterday and it was hilarious! What happened was that Mattel/WWE had a gathering on Comic-con called Mattel/WWE: Past, present & future and was featuring the WWE stars Triple H(now the man in charge in wwe as he fired Vince McMahon, all story of course), Rey Mysterio and Bret Hart. The pleasent surprise was that they could not have their little speech for so long because WWE Champ CM Punk decided to crash the party and in what a way! With a bullhorn high in his hand he came and took on the WWE stars with his always funny jokes and humour, I’m not going to say anymore, see for yourself in this video. It’s hilarious!
